Multiple explosions were reported in southern Iran early Saturday, with Iranian media saying US strikes targeted areas around the port city of Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island and Khuzestan province.
Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported that several explosions were heard in parts of Bandar Abbas, adding that authorities were investigating the incidents on the ground.
The semi-official Tasnim news agency, citing provincial officials, said blasts were heard across the city but that there were no immediate reports of missile impacts or attacks by US fighter jets.
Tasnim also reported explosions at around 3:38am local time (00:08 GMT) in several locations across nearby Qeshm Island. Residents told the agency that between three and five locations were hit.
In a later update, Tasnim said at least six missiles struck areas on the outskirts of Qeshm Island. Security officials had not yet commented on the incident, and there were no immediate reports on casualties or the extent of the damage.
Separately, Tasnim reported that US fighter jets struck a location near the city of Shadegan in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan province. Citing the province’s deputy governor for security, the report said emergency teams had been deployed to the area and would provide further information later.
The agency later reported another round of US strikes on Qeshm Island, saying at least two more explosions were heard. Emergency, security and operational teams were dispatched to identify the locations hit and assess any casualties or damage.
Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island have been repeatedly targeted by US air strikes in recent days as the conflict between Washington and Tehran continues to escalate.
