The United States carried out air strikes on Iran for an eighth consecutive night, as the conflict between Washington and Tehran continued to intensify amid growing regional instability.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the latest strikes were carried out partly in response to the killing of two American service members in an Iranian attack in Jordan. The military said the operation targeted sites linked to Iran’s military capabilities.
US President Donald Trump described the deaths of the two soldiers as “a very sad thing” and reiterated his administration’s stance on Iran’s nuclear programme.
“We’re never allowing Iran to have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei dismissed the credibility of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the United States last month, saying Trump’s signature was “worthless and invalid”.
Khamenei accused Washington of repeatedly violating the agreement, further deepening the diplomatic rift between the two countries.
In northern Iraq, local media reported that the US consulate in Erbil activated its air defence systems after drones targeted the diplomatic compound. No immediate reports of casualties or damage were released.
The latest developments come as the conflict continues to spread across the region, raising concerns over further military escalation and the growing impact on civilian infrastructure and regional security.
