Israeli Military Prepares for Prolonged Conflict Despite Trump’s Call for Ceasefire

The Israeli military says it is preparing for several more days of fighting and is making plans for the possibility of a prolonged confrontation with Iran, despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for both sides to immediately halt their attacks.

The remarks were made shortly before Trump publicly urged Israel and Iran to “stop shooting immediately”. The U.S. president has repeatedly called for restraint and had previously opposed an Israeli retaliation against Iran. It remains unclear how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government will respond to Washington’s latest push for de-escalation.

As the conflict continued overnight, Iranian missile attacks triggered air raid sirens across Israel, sending millions of people to shelters and protected areas. Schools were closed and public gatherings were restricted as Israeli air defence systems worked to intercept incoming threats.

Israeli sources also reported that two projectiles were launched from Yemen. According to Israeli Army Radio, one fell before reaching Israel while the second was intercepted. The launches came alongside a new barrage of approximately 30 missiles fired from Iran. Despite the ongoing attacks, Ben Gurion Airport remained operational and Israeli airspace stayed open, although several international airlines have suspended flights to and from Israel amid the worsening security situation.
