The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has issued a yellow alert covering areas from Kaafu Atoll to Addu City as deteriorating weather conditions are expected across the southern and central regions of the country.
According to the alert, strong winds ranging between 25 and 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph, are forecast during the warning period. The alert is active from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on May 14, 2026. Authorities have also warned of very rough sea conditions within the affected region.
The weather warning comes as the Maldives continues to experience unstable conditions linked to strengthening southwest monsoon activity. In recent days, the MET Office has issued multiple alerts across various atolls due to strong winds, thunderstorms, heavy rain and rough seas.
Meteorological authorities have advised seafarers, small vessel operators and the public to remain cautious while travelling at sea, as wave surges and hazardous marine conditions are likely in affected areas. Inter-atoll transport services may also face disruptions depending on weather developments.
The MET Office has previously stated that current weather patterns indicate an increased likelihood of the southwest monsoon, locally known as Hulhangu, becoming established over the Maldives.
