Seychelles Foreign Minister Arrives in Maldives on Historic Official Visit

Seychelles’ Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Barry Faure, has arrived in the Maldives on an official visit, marking the first-ever visit to the country by a foreign minister from Seychelles.

Faure is visiting at the invitation of Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel and was welcomed at Velana International Airport by Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya along with senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit is seen as an important step in strengthening relations between the Maldives and Seychelles, with both nations aiming to enhance cooperation in bilateral and multilateral areas. During the trip, Minister Faure is expected to hold talks with Foreign Minister Khaleel on expanding collaboration and addressing issues of shared interest.

As Small Island Developing States, the Maldives and Seychelles face similar challenges, including climate change, ocean governance, sustainable development, and economic vulnerabilities in global forums.

The visit highlights the longstanding friendly ties between the two countries and their shared commitment to increasing cooperation and amplifying the voice of island nations on international platforms.
