The Gulf remains on high alert as Iran continues attacks targeting US military facilities and critical infrastructure across the region, raising fears of a broader regional conflict despite previous diplomatic efforts to contain the fighting.
Iran said it carried out “large-scale attacks with kamikaze drones” against the US military’s ammunition depot at Camp Udairi and a Patriot radar system and air surveillance radar at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, according to a statement carried by state media.
The latest strikes come as Kuwait and Bahrain, both key hosts of US military installations, continue to bear the brunt of Iranian attacks since hostilities between Washington and Tehran resumed this month, despite an earlier ceasefire and memorandum of understanding.
Kuwait has said Iranian strikes hit a power and water plant as well as an oil facility before the United States launched fresh bombardments, which Washington said were intended to “punish” Iran following the first US military deaths since the conflict reignited.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said two US service members were killed on Friday while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks, adding that another service member remains missing in action.
The continued exchange of attacks has heightened concerns that the conflict could spread further across the Gulf, placing additional pressure on countries hosting US forces and threatening regional security and critical infrastructure.
