Maldives Expo 2026 will feature a dedicated district for international exhibitors, while the competition will remain exclusively open to Maldivians, the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade has confirmed.
The expo will feature seven districts this year, including two new additions: the Visitor Economy District, catering to businesses in the tourism sector, and the International District, which will showcase products and innovations from overseas companies.
Speaking on PSM News’ Maldives Expo 2026 countdown show, State Minister for Economic Development, Transport and Trade Abdulla Shiyaz said international companies had participated in last year’s exhibition, prompting organisers to introduce a separate district for them this year.
Shiyaz said the initiative aims to strengthen local creativity, empower Maldivian creators and provide opportunities for them to connect with international businesses and innovators.
He described the International District as a bridge between local and overseas creators, highlighting its potential to help Maldivians develop new ideas, establish partnerships and access support to advance their work.
Companies from India, China and the United Arab Emirates are expected to participate in the district, including businesses involved in the Maldives’ infrastructure development.
The State Minister said the district would primarily showcase new technological innovations that could contribute to the development of the Maldives’ digital and technology sectors.
However, Shiyaz clarified that international exhibitors would not be eligible to compete, with the competition reserved exclusively for Maldivians.
