US attacks leave widespread destruction across Iran

US attacks have caused extensive damage across several parts of Iran, with officials reporting strikes on dozens of locations, disrupted communications infrastructure and damage at a nuclear facility.

Valiollah Hayati, deputy governor of Khuzestan for security affairs, said the US had attacked at least 95 locations across 12 counties in the southwestern province over the past 10 days. Speaking to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, Hayati said the scale of the attacks reflected what he described as the “boundless criminality” of the US. Iranian authorities also reported that at least eight civilians were killed in the province.

In the southern province of Hormozgan, overnight US attacks damaged key telecommunications infrastructure, according to the province’s chief of communications and information technology. The official said 116 telecommunication towers were taken out of service, disrupting fixed-line, mobile and internet services in parts of Bandar Abbas, Hajiabad and surrounding northern areas of the province.

Meanwhile, newly released satellite imagery has revealed additional damage inside Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant complex following the latest wave of US strikes. A comparison of Sentinel-2 satellite images taken on July 7 and July 12 shows newly formed impact scars within the complex, as well as another apparent strike site at nearby support facilities.

Iran also said US Attacks have left many casualties including civilians and officials.

Al Jazeera’s open-source investigations unit analysed satellite imagery, field footage and official data from the US Central Command (CENTCOM) to map the locations of US strikes carried out across Iran between July 7 and July 15.
