A fire broke out at a power generation and water desalination plant in Kuwait following the latest round of Iranian attacks, the country’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said.
In a statement, the ministry said the fire affected one of the plant’s components, prompting authorities to take precautionary operational measures.
The ministry said a number of electricity generating units were temporarily disconnected to protect the facility, its workers and the stability of Kuwait’s power grid.
“This necessitated precautionary operational measures, consisting of disconnecting a number of generating units to preserve the safety of the plant and its workers, and to ensure the stability of the electrical grid,” the statement said.
The ministry said emergency and operational plans were activated immediately after the incident, adding that electricity and water services remain stable despite the fire.
It also said technical and operational teams continue to monitor the situation around the clock to minimise any potential disruption to essential services.
The announcement comes as Iran continues launching missile and drone attacks across the Gulf, with Kuwait among the countries targeted in the latest escalation of the conflict.
