A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of bringing drugs into Bilehdhoo, Faafu Atoll, and engaging in their sale and distribution.
The suspect, identified as Jamsheed Ismail of Saamaara Manzil, Bilehdhoo, was arrested on October 18 following reports that a person was transporting suspected drugs on a boat travelling to the island.
During an operation conducted by Bilehdhoo Police, officers stopped the suspect in the island’s harbour area and searched a bag he was carrying. The search uncovered 662 small rubber packets containing substances suspected to be narcotics.
The suspect was subsequently presented to court for a remand decision and ordered to remain in custody for 10 days.
Police are continuing to investigate the case.
