Asphalt paving work for Segment 3 of the Ameenee Magu resurfacing project is scheduled to begin tomorrow.
According to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), the initial application of the MC-30 prime coat, a specialized chemical layer applied prior to asphalt laying has been successfully completed. Workers are now making final preparations to commence the asphalt installation on this section.
Work on Segment 3 officially started on the 4th of this month. This section covers the stretch of Ameenee Magu from Izzudheen Magu up to Koarukendi Hingun.
To facilitate the paving operations, the Maldives Police Service announced that the area from the Tsunami Monument to the Social Centre will be closed to general traffic starting at 00:00 hrs on October 19. Authorities have urged vehicle owners to move any parked vehicles out of the specified area before the deadline.
MTCC detailed that the scope of work for Segment 3 involves removing old asphalt across a 1,924.77 square meter area, laying an Aggregate Base Course (ABC), paving new asphalt, and applying road markings once the paving is complete.
The Ameenee Magu repair project previously completed two other sections, which have since reopened to the public:
- Segment 1: From the Voice of Maldives (VOM) area to Dharumavantha Hospital.
- Segment 2: The four-way intersection directly in front of the Voice of Maldives building.
Following the completion of Segment 3, operations will move to Segment 4, which spans from Koarukendi Hingun to Ghiyasuddin International School.
