Sosun Magu

The rider involved in the fatal accident on Sosun Magu in Malé has been remanded in custody until the conclusion of his trial.

The accident occurred in the early hours of September 20, when two motorcycles collided in a dangerous crash.

In connection with the accident, 21-year-old Maahu Hassan of Th. Dhiyamigili, Hithadhoo, was arrested and initially remanded for 15 days.

Police said his 15-day detention expired today, after which he was brought before the court. The court subsequently ordered that he remain in custody until the conclusion of the legal proceedings.

Police said Hassan has a record of riding motorcycles at high speeds without a valid driving licence. He has reportedly been stopped and fined four times this year alone for riding without a licence.

Three people were injured in the crash. One of them, 26-year-old Aishath Maahidha, later died while receiving treatment for her injuries.

The case remains under investigation.
