A 26-year-old woman who sustained critical injuries in a severe motorcycle collision on Sosun Magu last Saturday night has passed away.
Police confirmed that the victim, identified as Aishath Maahida, died this afternoon while undergoing treatment at ADK Hospital, according to information provided by her family.
The crash involved two motorcycles and resulted in injuries to three individuals. While Maahida was treated at ADK Hospital, two Maldivian men, aged 21 and 22, were admitted to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for medical care.
Footage circulating on social media showed Maahida lying motionless on the street with severe head trauma and heavy bleeding, alongside the two injured men receiving assistance at the scene.
According to police, the 21-year-old operating one of the motorcycles involved did not hold a valid driving license. Authorities confirmed on Wednesday night that an individual linked to the accident has been taken into police custody.
Maahida’s funeral prayer will be held at the Aa Sahara Mosque following the Dawn (Fajr) prayer tonight.
Traffic collisions remain a persistent issue across the Greater Malé region, with police statistics indicating that over 2,100 road accidents have been reported so far this year.
