President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Madam Saajidha Mohamed arrived in AA. Ukulhas today to guest and officiate a major international conference uniting audit institutions from Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Upon stepping off the vessel at the island’s harbor, the First Couple was greeted with a warm welcome from local residents and conference participants who gathered at the port to mark their arrival.
Key Highlights of the SIDS-SAI Symposium
- Collaborative Hosting: The three-day event, official titled the “SIDS-SAI Symposium,” is jointly organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the Auditor General’s Office of the Maldives.
- Global Representation: The event brings together approximately 80 international delegates representing public audit institutions from small island nations across the globe.
- Core Objective: The symposium aims to enhance the auditing capabilities of supreme audit institutions (SAIs) in small island states, specifically focusing on evaluating national progress toward achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As part of the visit, President Muizzu is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at a special ceremony today, emphasizing the role of robust financial governance, transparency, and international support for vulnerable island economies.
