President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has highlighted the United Kingdom’s significant contribution to the Maldives’ economic and social development over the years.
The President made the remarks in a congratulatory letter sent to Andrew Burnham following his appointment as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. In the letter, President Muizzu extended his best wishes to Burnham as he assumes his new responsibilities.
President Muizzu also underscored the importance of the longstanding relationship between the Maldives and the United Kingdom, which he said is founded on mutual respect and cooperation. He highlighted the two countries’ shared commitment to democratic principles, the protection of human rights and the advancement of relations between their peoples.
The President expressed gratitude for the UK’s important role in the Maldives’ social and economic development over the years, according to information released by the President’s Office.
President Muizzu further expressed his eagerness to work closely with Prime Minister Burnham to strengthen bilateral relations and explore areas of cooperation that could bring greater benefits to the people of both countries.
He also said he looked forward to meeting the new British Prime Minister in the future to discuss opportunities for closer cooperation and collaboration between the Maldives and the United Kingdom.
