US Central Command (CENTCOM) says it has completed its latest wave of strikes against Iran, marking the end of another night of military operations as the conflict entered its tenth consecutive night. In a statement, CENTCOM said US forces targeted Iranian military command centres, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defence systems as part of its campaign to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM added that commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains ongoing despite the fighting, saying US forces have helped facilitate the transit of approximately 900 commercial vessels and 450 million barrels of crude oil since early May. The command also said American forces remain prepared to hold Iran accountable for what it described as aggression against civilian mariners using the strategic waterway.
The latest round of US strikes was accompanied by reports of explosions across several parts of Iran. Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported explosions in the southwestern city of Shiraz, saying locations in both the eastern and western parts of the city were attacked. In western Iran, several explosions were also reported in Abdanan, Ilam province, where local officials said a facility in the Dinar Kuh area had been targeted but no casualties were recorded. Authorities in Bushehr said sounds of explosions in the province were the result of air defence systems being activated, while officials in Isfahan denied earlier reports that explosions or attacks had occurred in the province.
Meanwhile, Iran claimed to have launched a broad series of retaliatory operations against US military assets across the Gulf. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it struck US air defence systems and radar installations in Bahrain’s Muharraq area and claimed to have destroyed a Patriot air defence system in Al-Riffa to clear the way for further operations. The IRGC also claimed it targeted multiple US military facilities in Kuwait, including long-range radar sites, missile defence systems, satellite communications infrastructure and an MQ-9 drone hangar at Ali Al Salem Air Base. In a separate statement, it said additional strikes hit the Ahmed Al-Jaber Air Base, including an early warning radar, an FPS-117 radar, a Patriot air defence system and satellite communication facilities.
Iran’s army separately claimed it used “kamikaze drones” to target three major US military installations in Kuwait, including Camp Arifjan, Camp Al-Adiri and Ahmed Al-Jaber Air Base, saying it struck administrative buildings, direction-finding antennas, helicopter parking areas and troop accommodation facilities.
The IRGC also claimed it carried out missile strikes against US military targets in Jordan, saying it destroyed a missile defence radar system and an F-15 fighter jet inside a shelter at a military base. In another claim, the group said it struck what it described as Amazon’s central data infrastructure in Bahrain using cruise missiles, saying the attack was carried out in response to recent US strikes on civilian infrastructure in Darkhovin.
