Kuwait has been placed on high alert after Iranian missile and drone attacks targeted US military assets in the country, causing damage to Kuwait International Airport and disrupting air travel across the Gulf state.
The attacks were launched by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in retaliation for recent US military strikes on Iranian targets, including facilities on Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Kuwaiti authorities, Kuwait International Airport’s Terminal 1 sustained significant damage during the attack. Several people were reported injured, though officials have not yet released a confirmed casualty figure.
Following the strikes, Kuwait’s Civil Aviation Authority suspended airport operations and diverted incoming and outgoing flights to alternative destinations until further notice. The disruption affected passenger travel and cargo operations, creating delays across regional aviation networks.
Kuwaiti air defence systems intercepted a number of incoming missiles and drones, limiting the scale of the damage. However, several projectiles reportedly penetrated defensive measures and struck targets inside the country, including airport infrastructure.
The Kuwaiti government strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a criminal act of aggression and reaffirming its commitment to protecting the country’s security and sovereignty.
The strikes triggered air raid sirens and heightened security measures nationwide amid fears of further attacks. Authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage while monitoring the evolving security situation.
