IGMH Introduces Nano Needle Procedure for Diagnosing Small Joint Conditions

A new minimally invasive procedure using advanced nano needle camera technology has been introduced at both Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Dharumavantha Hospital, marking a significant step forward in the diagnosis and treatment of small joint disorders in the Maldives.

According to IGMH, the technique involves using an ultra-thin arthroscopic camera, known as a nano needle, to examine problems inside small joints through a tiny entry point. The procedure allows specialists to identify joint damage and other conditions with greater precision while minimizing disruption to surrounding tissue.

Hospital officials said the technology is being used in the Maldives for the first time and represents a major advancement in orthopedic care.

The nano needle camera can be inserted through very small openings and is flexible enough to provide detailed views of joint structures. This enables doctors to assess injuries and ligament conditions directly, often without relying solely on MRI scans.

IGMH noted that the new procedure offers several benefits for patients, including smaller incisions, improved pain management, and a less invasive treatment process. It also helps streamline anesthesia administration and supports faster recovery following surgery.

The hospital added that patients undergoing the procedure may be able to return home sooner after treatment due to the reduced recovery time associated with the technique.
