Police have confirmed that the Speedboat involved in Monday morning’s maritime accident collided with a supply vessel and that an investigation is underway into allegations that the vessel failed to stop following the collision.
The accident occurred at around 6:30 a.m. and involved the Speedboat Tour Guard, which was carrying two people at the time of the incident.
A police media official said investigators have since identified the vessel involved in the collision. Authorities confirmed that the launch struck a supply boat, while a separate investigation is being conducted into claims that the vessel left the scene without stopping after the accident.
According to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), only two crew members were aboard the launch when the collision occurred. Both sustained serious injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police later stated that the condition of the injured individuals has improved. The two men receiving treatment are a 38-year-old Maldivian national and a 30-year-old foreign national.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and will determine any further action based on the findings. The collision caused extensive damage to the launch, with its front section suffering severe structural damage.
