Suspected Ebola Cases Detected in Italy as Fears Grow Over Deadly Virus

Health authorities in Italy have launched precautionary measures after two aid workers returned from Uganda with suspected Ebola symptoms. The two humanitarian workers, a man and a woman, had recently returned to Italy’s Lombardy region following a three-month stay in Uganda. Both individuals reportedly developed symptoms associated with Ebola, including high fever, nausea, vomiting and intestinal complications.

The patients were transferred to Milan’s Sacco Hospital, a specialist facility that handles high-risk infectious diseases.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the spread of a dangerous Ebola strain across parts of central Africa. Reports indicate that hundreds of suspected infections and more than 200 deaths have already been recorded in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Regional officials in Lombardy said tests are still being carried out to confirm whether the two cases are actually Ebola. Authorities stressed that no final confirmation has yet been made.

The World Health Organization has previously warned that the outbreak poses a significant regional risk, though the risk of wider global spread currently remains low.

Health officials across Europe continue monitoring the situation closely as investigations and laboratory testing remain ongoing.
