Authorities investigating the fatal cave diving incident in the Maldives have received several key items recovered from inside the underwater cave system, including GoPro cameras and multiple pieces of diving equipment used by the divers involved in the expedition.
According to information shared by Maldives Security Desk, the Finnish technical diving team assisting in the recovery operation handed over the recovered items to investigators from the Maldives Police Service as part of the ongoing probe into the tragedy.
Investigators are expected to examine the equipment closely, as the recovered cameras and gear could provide critical insight into the divers’ final moments inside the cave system. Officials believe the footage and data may help reconstruct the route taken by the divers, visibility conditions inside the cave, dive depth, communication patterns, and any technical difficulties encountered during the mission.
The recovery operation has drawn significant international attention following the deaths of four foreign divers who became trapped deep within the cave network. Specialized international technical diving teams were brought in to assist Maldivian authorities due to the extreme complexity and danger of the underwater environment.
Police have not yet released official findings regarding the exact cause of the incident. However, the recovered evidence is expected to play a major role in determining what led to the fatal outcome.
The investigation remains ongoing.
