Aman has officially unveiled the name of its first destination in the Maldives, with the luxury hospitality group announcing that its upcoming Vaavu Atoll development will be known as Amanolu.
Set within Vaavu Atoll, Amanolu will combine an intimate luxury resort with a limited collection of fully serviced Aman-branded residences, with the residences each occupying their own private island.
According to Aman, the name Amanolu combines “Aman,” the Sanskrit word for peace, with “Olu,” inspired by the water lily, a symbol associated with serenity, renewal and a connection with nature.
The resort is planned to feature 52 keys, with dedicated islands for wellness and recreation. The development is being designed by KHA, a longtime architectural collaborator of Aman, with the design intended to respond to the natural geography of the Maldives and create a close connection between the buildings and surrounding seascape.
Alongside the resort, Amanolu will include a limited collection of Aman Residences. Each residence will be a five-bedroom home located on its own private island, offering expansive indoor and outdoor living spaces, a 25-metre swimming pool, dedicated staff accommodation and a personal berth.
The residences will also offer access to Amanolu’s dining, wellness and recreational facilities, including a dedicated wellness and activity island. Aman says the private islands have been positioned to capture sunrise or sunset views, while some will have uninterrupted views from dawn to dusk.
Aman has not announced an opening date for Amanolu on its official website. The destination is currently listed as a forthcoming development in the Maldives.
The announcement marks Aman’s entry into the Maldivian market, adding another major international luxury hospitality brand to the country’s growing portfolio of high-end private-island developments.
