President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended warm congratulations to Saudi Arabia on the occasion of the Kingdom’s 96th National Day, reaffirming the Maldives’ longstanding friendship and close ties with the Kingdom.
In a message addressed to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Saudi Royal Family, Government and people, President Muizzu highlighted the historic relationship between the two countries and their shared Islamic values.
“The Maldives and Saudi Arabia share a deep bond rooted in centuries of historic ties and our shared Islamic values,” Muizzu said.
The President also expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s support and contributions to the socio-economic development of the Maldives, while expressing confidence that the friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two countries would continue to grow.
In separate congratulatory letters, Muizzu described Saudi Arabia as a “cherished and trusted partner” of the Maldives and expressed hope for further expansion of the economic partnership between the two countries.
The President also highlighted the importance of Saudi investment in transformative development initiatives in the Maldives, expressing his desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation and open new avenues that could provide lasting benefits to both countries.
The Maldives has also repeatedly expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia in recent weeks following attacks targeting Saudi territory.
The Maldives subsequently condemned the targeting of the Kingdom’s East-West Pipeline and, following an attempted Houthi drone attack towards the holy city of Makkah, reaffirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for measures taken to protect the Kingdom and the Two Holy Mosques.
Saudi-Maldives relations have also seen high-level exchanges this year.
In July, Saudi Arabia sent Prince Dr Mansour bin Mutaib bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Minister of State and Cabinet Member, to the Maldives as the Guest of Honour for the country’s 61st Independence Day celebrations. Prince Mansour attended the celebrations as the representative of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Marking Saudi National Day, Muizzu concluded his message by praying for the Kingdom’s continued peace, prosperity and glory.
“May Almighty Allah grant the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continued peace, prosperity, and glory,” the President said.
