The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has provided approximately $488 million in funding for development projects in the Maldives since the establishment of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Saudi Ambassador to the Maldives Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani has said.
In a special statement issued on the occasion of the 96th National Day of Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Al-Qahtani highlighted development cooperation as one of the key pillars of the close relationship between Saudi Arabia and the Maldives.
According to the ambassador, Saudi development assistance has supported a number of projects across sectors directly connected to the lives of Maldivians, including infrastructure, housing, healthcare, water and sanitation systems, and transport.
He said the Saudi Fund for Development has played an important role in supporting the Maldives’ development over the years, with its assistance contributing to projects in several important areas.
The ambassador also said Saudi Arabia remains prepared to further strengthen its economic and development ties with the Maldives.
He noted that cooperation could be expanded across areas including Islamic affairs, trade, investment, tourism, education and technology, with Saudi Arabia committed to practical efforts that benefit the people of both countries.
Ambassador Al-Qahtani also expressed his appreciation to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, his government and the people of the Maldives for the warm, friendly and close relations maintained with Saudi Arabia.
He concluded his message by offering prayers for the peace, prosperity and continued progress of the people of both countries.
