Explosion heard in southern Lebanon

An explosion was heard in southern Lebanon after an interceptor missile was launched near the border with Israel, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported.

According to the agency, the blast was heard over the Marjayoun Plain and was later determined to have been caused by an interceptor missile.

The incident coincided with Israeli media reports that air defence systems had been activated in the northern Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona, near the Lebanese border. The circumstances surrounding the activation remain under investigation.

Earlier on Saturday, the NNA also reported that a drone had been flying over Beirut’s southern suburbs.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the incident.
