Iran Says It Shoots Down US MQ-9 Reaper Drone

Iran says it has shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone that allegedly entered its airspace, marking another escalation in the rapidly expanding conflict between Tehran and Washington.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the unmanned aircraft was brought down over the city of Khormoj in Iran’s Bushehr Province after US forces carried out large-scale strikes on targets in southern Iran early Wednesday.

The announcement comes hours after the United States launched coordinated attacks on dozens of targets in southern Iran, which Washington said were in retaliation for Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has vowed a “powerful response” to the US strikes, while military activity across the region continues to intensify.

The latest development comes amid ongoing exchanges between Iranian and US forces, as well as renewed Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon, raising concerns that the conflict could widen further across the Middle East.
