President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday for a State Visit running from October 20 to 22.

The President and First Lady were accorded a 21-gun salute upon arrival at Islamabad International Airport. Muizzu is scheduled to receive an official welcome at the Prime Minister House on Wednesday.

The visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and marks the first high-level bilateral engagement between the Maldives and Pakistan in more than a decade.

During the visit, Muizzu is expected to hold high-level talks with Pakistan’s leadership, with several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) scheduled to be exchanged to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

The visit also coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Pakistan, established on July 26, 1966.
