President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed hope that stronger relations between the Maldives and Pakistan will pave the way for sustainable development, as he began his first state visit to Pakistan on Monday.
Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed arrived in Islamabad following an invitation from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. They were accorded a ceremonial welcome upon arrival.
In a post on X, Muizzu thanked the Pakistani government and its people for the warm reception, saying he looked forward to engagements that would deepen bilateral relations, strengthen the partnership between the two countries and advance their shared aspirations.
The President is accompanied by a senior government delegation, including members of the Cabinet, for the three-day visit, which runs from October 20 to 22.
Muizzu is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari separately on Tuesday. He is also expected to meet the Speaker of Pakistan’s Parliament and senior members of the Pakistani government.
Official discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation between the two countries, with agreements covering several areas also scheduled to be exchanged during the visit.
