A 48-year-old Maldivian man who went missing after entering the lagoon area near Hulhulé has been found dead following a search operation, authorities confirmed today.
According to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the man had reportedly entered the water from an oil barge anchored in the lagoon north of the Hulhulé seaplane terminal on Wednesday evening. Rescue teams began searching for him after he was reported missing.
The deceased was identified as Ibrahim Shakir, 48, from Rathvilaa, K. Guraidhoo.
MNDF said his body was later discovered in the lagoon area near the seaplane terminal. The search and recovery operation involved MNDF personnel, police officers, and the airport rescue team.
Marine Police stated that the body was recovered from underwater in the Hulhumalé lagoon region.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact circumstances or cause behind the incident, and further investigations are ongoing.
