President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has amended the Drugs Act through a presidential decree to allow the legal availability of methylphenidate in the Maldives, a medication commonly used in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
The amendment was introduced under Presidential Decree No. 10/2026 following discussions by the Cabinet and recommendations made by the National Drug Control Council.
With the legal changes now in place, methylphenidate can be made accessible within the country under a regulated framework, addressing long-standing concerns over the lack of ADHD medication options available for patients in the Maldives.
