Trump Says Iran Ceasefire on ‘Life Support’ as US Considers Reviving Naval Escort Operation

US President Donald Trump has stated that the ceasefire involving Iran is now in a highly fragile condition, describing it as being “on life support” while signaling that the United States may once again consider escorting commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Monday, Trump said recent responses from Iran to Washington’s demands had further weakened the already unstable truce. He added that the US remains committed to securing what he called a “complete victory” despite the stalled negotiations.

Trump also revealed that his administration is weighing the possibility of reviving “Operation Freedom,” a US-led naval escort initiative aimed at protecting oil tankers and commercial vessels traveling through the Hormuz Strait. The operation was initially launched on May 6 before being suspended less than two days later.

According to Trump, the United States had presented Iran with several conditions focused mainly on restricting Tehran’s nuclear expansion efforts. However, he dismissed Iran’s counter-proposals submitted over the weekend as unacceptable.

While reaffirming that the US is still open to discussions, Trump claimed divisions remain within Iran’s leadership between moderates and hardliners, warning that the conflict could escalate rapidly if diplomacy fails.
