The Maldivian government has strongly condemned the recent ballistic missile attacks targeting civilian-populated areas in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attacks as a violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The ministry said such acts threaten not only the Kingdom’s security but also the peace and stability of the wider region.
The government reaffirmed that the people of the Maldives stand in full solidarity with the Saudi government and its people. It also expressed support for any measures taken by Saudi Arabia to safeguard its national security and protect its citizens.
The Foreign Ministry further stressed the importance of diplomacy and dialogue in resolving regional disputes and reducing tensions. It reiterated the Maldives’ longstanding call for all parties to respect international law and work toward maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The statement follows missile and drone attacks launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement against Abha International Airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia. According to the Houthis, the attacks were carried out after Saudi forces reportedly prevented an Iranian aircraft bound for Sana’a International Airport from landing.
