Residents Return to Devastation in Southern Lebanon After Months of Displacement

Families returning to southern Lebanon after months of displacement are finding their homes and communities heavily damaged, as the region continues to recover from intense fighting and Israeli military operations.

Across several villages near the border, residents have begun assessing the destruction left behind. Many returned hoping to resume normal life, only to discover homes reduced to rubble, damaged infrastructure, and entire neighborhoods scarred by the conflict.

Among those returning is Hussein Damash, who found his home severely damaged. Standing among the ruins, he expressed concern not only about what had been lost but also about the uncertainty that remains.

“Israel might strike right now,” Damash said. “They cannot be trusted. They do not comply with international laws. The whole world knows this.”

Despite the ceasefire efforts and international calls for stability, many residents say they remain fearful of renewed violence. Reports of continued military activity and security tensions in parts of southern Lebanon have left returning families uncertain about their future.

The conflict forced thousands of people to flee their homes, disrupting livelihoods and placing significant strain on communities across the region. As families return, they face the difficult task of rebuilding homes, restoring businesses, and reconnecting essential services such as electricity and water.

Local officials and humanitarian organizations have warned that reconstruction could take years, with extensive damage affecting housing, roads, schools, and public facilities. Many residents say they lack the financial resources needed to rebuild and are calling for greater international support.

For now, families returning to southern Lebanon are attempting to rebuild their lives amid the destruction, while continuing to hope that lasting peace and stability can be achieved in the region.
