Israel Says Iran Made a ‘Grave Mistake’

Israel has warned that Iran committed a “grave mistake” by launching attacks against the country, as tensions continue to rise across the region despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to maintain a fragile ceasefire.

Speaking to reporters, Israeli military spokesperson Effie Defrin said Iran’s actions would not go unanswered and confirmed that Israel’s military leadership is reviewing the latest developments.

“The chief of staff is currently assessing the situation and approving plans for the future,” Defrin said.

He added that the Israeli military would continue its operations in Lebanon and remains prepared for the possibility of further attacks.

“The Israeli army will continue to operate throughout Lebanon. We are prepared for the possibility of additional firing,” he stated.

The remarks come amid growing concerns that the latest exchanges of fire could undermine efforts to prevent a wider regional conflict involving Iran, Israel, and armed groups operating across the Middle East.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump appears determined to keep the ceasefire framework intact despite the renewed escalation. According to reports from Washington, Trump has continued to express confidence that a diplomatic agreement with Iran remains possible and could be reached soon.

Speaking briefly to reporters, Trump reportedly suggested that Iran should move forward with a deal, signaling that his administration still sees a path toward de-escalation.

While the US State Department has remained largely silent throughout the day, a US official told Al Jazeera that Hezbollah bears responsibility for the latest escalation in Lebanon. The official accused Iran of using Hezbollah as a proxy force to obstruct progress toward a broader peace arrangement.

Despite the rising violence and increasingly sharp rhetoric from both sides, Trump appears intent on preventing the collapse of the ceasefire, with observers noting that Washington is making significant efforts to avoid a wider regional war.

The situation remains highly volatile, with military and diplomatic developments continuing to unfold across the region.
