The Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) has announced the opening of applications for its second-semester academic programmes, offering a total of 67 courses across a wide range of disciplines.
The programmes cover several fields, including Qur’an and Hadith, Sharia law, Fiqh, Islamic Studies, Imamship, Language Education, Finance, Accounting, Leadership and Administration, Management, and Journalism.
Speaking on PSM News’ Raajje Miadhu programme, Dean of the Kulliyah of Education, Dr Aishath Sheena, described the intake as an important opportunity for individuals seeking higher education. She noted that students who recently completed their A-Level studies are also eligible to apply.
Dr Sheena highlighted that students can pursue their studies from their home islands through online learning, while face-to-face classes will be available at seven regional campuses in addition to the university’s main campuses.
The regional campuses offering programmes are located in R. Ungoofaaru, Lh. Naifaru, L. Fonadhoo, Thinadhoo City, Fuvahmulah City, Addu City Hithadhoo, and Addu City Maradhoo Feydhoo.
According to the university, this semester’s intake includes one PhD programme, 15 master’s programmes, 16 bachelor’s degree programmes, one associate degree programme, 11 diploma programmes, 22 certificate programmes, and one post-diploma course.
Dr Sheena said the Master’s in Teaching Higher Education and the Master’s in Research Publication programmes provide strong pathways for students planning to pursue doctoral studies. She also highlighted the Diploma in Special Education, which is conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to help train teachers working with children who have special educational needs.
Assistant Professor Dr Mohamed Solih from IUM’s Centre for Research and Publications also spoke about the Certificate Level 4 in Spiritual Intelligence Counselling, which is being offered this semester. He explained that the programme focuses on counselling approaches based on Islamic principles.
