Three Bangladeshi nationals have been detained by Maldivian authorities over alleged illegal foreign currency trading, following information received through a hotline established to report unauthorised currency exchange activities.
The Maldives Police Service identified the detainees as Siraz Khan, MD Mizanur Rahman and Amir Hussein. They were taken into immigration custody on October 12, 2026.
Police said the operation followed information received through a hotline set up to share reports about individuals conducting foreign currency transactions in violation of Maldivian regulations.
The investigation is ongoing, with further action to be determined based on additional information and findings gathered by police.
The authorities have urged the public to report information about individuals engaged in unauthorised foreign currency exchange activities without a money exchange business licence issued by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
Information can be shared with the task force investigating such cases by messaging 9388733 via SMS, Viber or WhatsApp.
Police also expressed appreciation for the public’s cooperation in reporting such activities.
