The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has taken three foreign fishing vessels into custody for allegedly fishing illegally within the Maldives’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The vessels were intercepted during a special operation conducted jointly by the MNDF Coast Guard and Air Corps on the night of October 12.
According to the MNDF, the vessels were operating approximately 170 nautical miles west of Ari Atoll when they were brought under Coast Guard control. Efforts are currently underway to bring the three vessels to Malé.
