Nilaa Coral Island Maldives has opened in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, becoming the atoll’s third resort. Developed on Kodegalaa, the resort is positioned as a high-end tourism destination featuring seven ocean-facing villas.
The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation said the opening would create new employment and business opportunities for residents of Gaafu Dhaalu, allowing more people to access tourism-related opportunities closer to home.
“With Visit Maldives Year 2027 approaching, each new resort helps the Maldives welcome more visitors while bringing the benefits of tourism to more islands,” the ministry said.
Designed to accommodate up to 40 guests at a time, Nilaa Coral Island Maldives features seven villas divided into three categories: two-bedroom villas, three-bedroom villas and a five-bedroom villa in the highest category. All seven villas face the ocean.
The resort has opened bookings and is located approximately 15 minutes from Maavarulu Airport, according to the resort.
Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll is currently home to two other operating resorts: Ayada Maldives and NH Collection Maldives Havodda Resort.
According to figures published by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, the Maldives currently has 180 operating resorts with a combined capacity of 45,171 beds.
The country has received approximately 1.6 million tourist arrivals so far this year, including around 1.2 million visitors who stayed at resorts.
