Passenger train services have resumed from the southern Iranian city of Bandar Abbas, two days after US military strikes damaged railway infrastructure in the area, according to Iran’s state-run IRIB news agency.
The resumption marks the restoration of a key transport link in Hormozgan province after the attacks disrupted rail operations serving the strategic port city.
The railway junction west of Bandar Abbas was struck during the recent attacks, damaging tracks and station facilities and injuring two people, according to Iranian media. The junction connects passenger and freight rail services to Bandar Abbas and the nearby Shahid Rajaee port, one of Iran’s busiest commercial gateways.
Following the strikes, authorities suspended or rerouted passenger services while repair work was carried out. Some passengers were transported by bus between Bandar Abbas and nearby stations before continuing their journeys by train.
Iranian authorities have not provided details on the extent of the repairs but confirmed that passenger trains are once again operating from Bandar Abbas railway station, signalling the reopening of an important transport route despite the ongoing conflict.
