The United States expanded its military campaign against Iran over the past several hours, launching fresh strikes across multiple provinces as Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting US military facilities in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain.
The latest US attacks struck sites in central, western and southern Iran, with Iranian media reporting air raids on Khondab in Markazi province, Semnan Airport, and several locations in Hamadan province. Explosions were also reported in Khorramabad, while air defence systems were activated in Tehran to counter what Iranian authorities described as hostile threats.
According to Iranian state media, no casualties were reported in the attacks on Semnan Airport or Hamadan province. Officials said the airport sustained limited damage, with a side building hit and windows shattered, while no residential areas were affected.
The strikes came as US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it continued targeting Iranian military capabilities linked to threats against international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump has also indicated the campaign could expand beyond coastal targets and further into Iran’s interior if no agreement is reached with Tehran in the coming days.
Iran said it responded with a series of retaliatory operations against US military positions across the region.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for a combined missile and drone attack on Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, saying it targeted an early-warning radar system and an area where US troops were gathered. Iran’s army separately said it struck US communications systems, radar installations and fuel depots at Azraq Air Base in Jordan before later announcing attacks on US military facilities in Bahrain and additional targets in Kuwait as part of what it called Operation Lightning.
Jordan’s military said it intercepted eight Iranian missiles over its territory, adding that no casualties or material damage were reported.
Meanwhile, the IRGC announced it had shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone over the southwestern city of Andimeshk, saying it was intercepted by a newly deployed air defence system operated by the force’s aerospace division.
Iranian authorities also provided further details on the humanitarian impact of the latest attacks. State broadcaster IRIB said 211 patients were evacuated from Shahid Baghaei Hospital in Ahvaz after nearby strikes affected the medical facility. The hospital, which treats cancer patients, had earlier been partially evacuated after explosions caused panic among patients and staff.
Iran’s Health Ministry said the latest round of US attacks has killed at least 35 people and wounded more than 300 since the recent escalation began.
The latest developments mark another significant escalation in the conflict, with military operations now extending across multiple Iranian provinces and retaliatory strikes reaching several countries hosting US forces in the Gulf region.
