Despite Israeli restrictions, 60,000 people prayed at Al-Aqsa

Despite heavy restrictions imposed by Israel, around 60,000 Palestinians performed Friday prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Islamic Waqf Department in القدس Jerusalem said that although Israeli forces had taken control of the gates leading to the Old City and the compound, tens of thousands of worshippers began arriving at the mosque courtyard early this morning for prayers.

Israeli forces were deployed across various areas of the Old City, setting up positions at the mosque’s gates and checkpoints surrounding القدس Jerusalem. Soldiers stopped and searched Muslims, while strict security measures were also enforced.

Israel has heavily restricted entry to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, especially during Fridays and religious occasions, making it difficult for Palestinians to access the site.

On February 28, following the outbreak of war involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, entry into the mosque compound was completely banned for a period of time.

Visiting Al-Aqsa Mosque is considered an important part of Palestinian culture and identity. Spending time there is a long-standing tradition among Palestinians. From the Palestinian perspective, Al-Aqsa Mosque is viewed as part of their heritage and history.
