The Maldives Meteorological Service has warned of strong winds and rough seas across northern and central parts of the country, with gusts expected to reach up to 40 miles per hour.
According to the weather agency, unstable weather conditions are forecast to continue in northern atolls over the next three days, while southern atolls are expected to experience relatively calmer conditions.
Over the next 24 hours, thunderstorms and heavy rain are likely in several northern and central areas. Some islands in the north may also experience intense rainfall.
The Met Office said winds in northern and central atolls are expected to blow from the west and southwest at speeds between 13 and 23 miles per hour, while southern atolls will see lighter winds ranging from 5 to 15 miles per hour. Gusts during squalls could reach nearly 40 miles per hour.
Sea conditions in northern and central Maldives are expected to remain rough, while southern seas are forecast to stay moderate. Wave heights are estimated between 4 and 7 feet in northern and central regions, and between 2 and 4 feet in the south.
Authorities have advised those travelling by sea in northern and central areas to exercise caution and closely monitor weather updates.
The highest rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours was in ADh. Maamigili, where 36 millimetres of rain was reported.
