Island Aviation Seeks Contractor to Develop Dharavandhoo Airport Passenger Terminal

Island Aviation has opened the opportunity for contractors to submit interest in developing the passenger terminal at Dharavandhoo Airport.

According to the announcement, both local and international contractors may submit expressions of interest for the project. Submissions must be sent via email before June 4.

The project will be carried out under a contractor-financing model and must be completed within 18 months from the commencement date.

Island Aviation said preference will be given to parties that have previously carried out similar projects or completed projects valued above MVR 50 million.

Under the development project, the existing passenger terminal at Dharavandhoo Airport will be expanded to meet growing demand. Island Aviation said the expansion was needed due to the increase in tourist arrivals through the airport and the rising pressure on the current terminal.

The project also includes the construction of a new lounge building. Island Aviation noted that the development work must be planned and carried out without disrupting ongoing airport services.

Dharavandhoo Domestic Airport was opened on October 17, 2012. The airport currently handles more than eight flights per day and is widely used by tourists travelling to resorts and guesthouses in the region.
