Majunoon, the latest feature film from veteran Maldivian filmmaker Fathimath Nahula, premiered at Olympus in Malé on Monday night, 26 October.
According to the National Centre for the Arts (NCA), which runs the Olympus Theatre, the Dhivehi film is scheduled to screen at 8:30 pm, with its run listed from 26 October to 24 November 2026.
Cast and Crew
Directed by Nahula, Majunoon features Ahmed Sharif, Mariyam Shifa, Ahmed Easa, Washiya Mohamed, Saamee Hussain Didi and Ali Azim. Ayesha Layaali Sinan and Evelin Livi Firaash also appear in the film.
Layaali, Nahula’s youngest daughter, previously appeared in the director’s 2025 film Sorry.
Mariyam Shifa, who made her screen debut in 2018 and is also widely known as a dancer and social media personality, lists Majunoon among her 2026 feature film credits.
The film’s poster and teaser were unveiled at a launch event in September, attended by members of the local film community.
Nahula’s Return to the Big Screen
Majunoon comes just over a year after Nahula’s romantic drama Sorry, which she co-directed with Ravee Farooq and released in June 2025. That film starred Yoosuf Shafeeu, Mariyam Azza and Ahmed Easa.
Born in 1973, Nahula worked as a schoolteacher before turning to filmmaking. She made her directorial debut in 1998 with the family drama Fahuneyvaa and went on to become one of the most commercially successful directors in Maldivian cinema. She received the National Award of Recognition in 2009.
Her 2016 horror film 4426, co-directed with Ahmed Sinan, screened 25 houseful shows at Olympus and was declared the highest-grossing Maldivian film of that year.
A Busy Year at Olympus
Majunoon adds to a steady stream of local releases in 2026. Earlier this year, Olympus screened films including Ali Seezan’s two-part Paree, Movanu Shafeeq’s Dhoadhi, Mohamed Hilmy’s Lamha, Amjad Ibrahim’s Gilan and Ali Shifau’s Jannath.
Olympus remains the main venue for Dhivehi feature film premieres in Malé. Tickets for Majunoon are available at the cinema.
