MVR 18.98m North Harbour jetty project advances

Finger Jetty

Concrete work on the finger jetty project at Malé North Harbour is expected to begin next week, with pile installation progressing under the MVR 18.98 million development, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has said.

MTCC said installation of piles for the 15-metre jetties is ongoing and is expected to be completed by the end of next week. Reinforcement work is also underway ahead of the start of concrete work.

The project involves the construction of six finger jetties, comprising three structures measuring 25 metres long and six metres wide, and another three measuring 15 metres long and six metres wide.

The new facilities are expected to ease congestion at the harbour by providing additional berthing space and allowing more vessels to dock simultaneously.

MTCC said the jetties will also address difficulties faced by passengers who have to board one speedboat and cross to another to reach vessels moored further from the shore.

The improvements are expected to make boarding and disembarking safer and more convenient, particularly for children, elderly passengers and travellers carrying luggage.

Once completed, the additional berthing space is expected to help streamline passenger movement and reduce delays for people using the harbour.
