A police officer has sustained serious injuries after a motorcycle travelling at high speed crashed into him on the Sinamalé Bridge highway early this morning.
Maldives Police Service said the accident occurred at 4:29 a.m. The injured officer is receiving treatment at ADK Hospital. Police have not disclosed further details about the nature of his injuries.
According to police, the motorcyclist was travelling from Malé towards Hulhumalé when he lost control of the vehicle and struck an officer on duty along the highway.
Other officers stationed at the scene subsequently stopped the motorcycle, police said.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over dangerous speeding in Malé and Hulhumalé, where reckless driving has contributed to an increase in road accidents. Police have intensified enforcement measures and operations in response to the growing risks posed by speeding motorists.
