Two Sri Lankans Arrested on Stolen Motorcycle

Two Sri Lankan men have been taken into police custody in Malé after they were allegedly found riding a stolen motorcycle fitted with a different number plate.

The suspects, aged 29 and 25, were stopped by police at around 2:14 a.m. on Lonuziyaaraiy Magu after a patrol team spotted the motorcycle being driven against the one-way traffic.

Police initially impounded the motorcycle and took it to the towing yard after discovering that the rider did not have a valid motorcycle driving licence.

During a subsequent inspection at the towing yard, authorities found that the registration number displayed on the motorcycle did not match its engine and chassis numbers.

A check of the vehicle’s original identification details through the relevant system confirmed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen.

Both men were taken into police custody on suspicion of using a stolen vehicle.

Police are continuing to investigate the case.
