Police have confirmed that the guns seen in a video circulating on social media showing a group of people carrying what appeared to be firearms in Hulhumalé were toys.
Hulhumalé Phase 1 Police Station investigated the incident after the video raised concerns online, including unverified claims that the individuals could be linked to Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.
According to police, the video was recorded on the night of October 14, 2026.
During patrols in Hulhumalé, officers located and stopped the red car seen in the footage in the Rungandu area. After questioning the driver, police learned that the vehicle was a rental car and summoned the person who had rented it to the police station.
Further inquiries confirmed that the guns shown in the video were toy guns. The individual involved reportedly said the items had been used for filming a video.
Police have taken the items into their custody and are continuing to examine the matter.
The incident prompted speculation on social media, with some posts alleging that the individuals were armed operatives and raising fears of possible targeted attacks against people opposing Eagle Hills. However, the claims linking the incident to Mossad or any planned attacks have not been substantiated by the information released by police.
