The annual Edexcel A-Level and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations commenced today across the country, with a total of 4,973 candidates sitting for the high-stakes assessments.
According to figures released by the Ministry of Education, student participation is concentrated largely in the capital, where 3,284 students from the Greater Malé area are taking the A-Level exams and 1,357 are sitting for the HSC exams. Across the outer atolls, candidate numbers stand at 1,689 for A-Levels and 906 for the HSC examinations.
The Ministry confirmed that examinations are underway across 53 designated centers nationwide, comprising four primary centers in the Greater Malé region and 49 centers situated across various atolls. The examination period is scheduled to run through October 30.
Marking the commencement of the exam series, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu extended his best wishes to candidates in a statement shared on social media. The President highlighted higher secondary education as a pivotal milestone in shaping students’ futures, emphasizing its importance in guiding their post-secondary academic pursuits and career choices.
