The Maldives and Angola have signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two countries.
The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam signed the agreements on behalf of the Maldives, while Angola’s Minister of External Relations Téte António signed on behalf of Angola.
One of the MoUs establishes a formal mechanism for political consultations between the two countries. It will facilitate regular discussions on bilateral relations, regional and international developments, and potential areas for further cooperation.
The second MoU, signed between the Foreign Service Institute of Maldives (FOSIM) and Angola’s Venâncio de Moura Diplomatic Academy, will promote cooperation in professional training, diplomatic skills development, and the exchange of experience and best practices.
The agreements follow discussions between the two ministers during a meeting in Malé in June 2026 and mark another step towards strengthening relations between the Maldives and Angola.
The Maldives and Angola established diplomatic relations on November 10, 2020.
